Have you ever read or listened to a movie review where the analysis acts as if the reviewer was personally violated by each frame of the film? I have, and way too much if you ask me. My name is Leigh and I am co-host, writer, janitor, and beer drinker at Night Of The Horrorphile: A Horror Movie Podcast. We take our reviews and deep dives in a more alternative direction; combining humor, history, and love for the genre in every episode because if you hate horror why watch it?
Not every bad review means a critic hates horror, some films are just terrible. My problem lies with those who stop the train dead and anything they feel falls beneath their tastes. You know that person, the whole “a film isn’t on par with CITIZEN KANE so it’s worthless and overrated” person. Here’s a tip: if anyone begins with the words “Citizen Kane is the greatest film of all time,” the discussion usually turns sour. Now whats this got to do with a podcast?
Night Of The Horrorphile is for everyone, but mostly it’s for those of you who still have a twinkle and a soft spot for even the worst of genre films. It’s for the outcast that loves a good Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case, Frankenhooker) flick, the mutant who long awaited the return of Joe Bob Briggs, and the new blood who James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring), Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) and Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) reeled in. We try to show the worth of all horror with every episode.
We recently dived deep into Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000), and found some merits in the deeply flawed and maligned sequel. Brittany, my co-host and better half, even walked away loving it. That is the bare bones of what the show is about, loving horror and learning why every film is important. Having a second home here at Creepylovely helps immensely with the cause.
So from now on you’ll find me bringing Night Of The Horrorphile‘s touch to the halls of this site. I feel lucky to live in a time where finding other mutants and outcasts is so much easier So sit back, crack a cold one, and enjoy Night Of The Horrorphile in sound and here at Creepylovely.
